The Lapeer County Emergency Relief Fund

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lapeer County Community Foundation is working in collaboration with local funding partners in providing emergency assistance funding to local organizations that are going above and beyond their typical operations to assist the community. The Lapeer County Community Foundation has established the Lapeer County Emergency Relief Fund to quickly coordinate and deploy resources to nonprofit organizations in Lapeer County and to serve as a centralized point of giving and distribution of financial assistance.

The Lapeer County Emergency Relief Fund

Established by the Lapeer County Community Foundation, the fund serves as a centralized place for giving that will guarantee that 100 percent of funds donated will be used locally in response to the coronavirus. No administrative fees will be assessed to this fund, This Lapeer County Emergency Relief Fund will help support the organizations caring for and assisting vulnerable populations throughout Lapeer County as we navigate these unprecedented times.

Grants will be awarded on a regular basis to nonprofits that are addressing the gaps in key services for our most vulnerable community members. The Foundation will work in collaboration with our partners to ensure the Fund has maximum scope and impact throughout the outbreak and recovery phases of the crisis.

The Foundation encourage’s institutions, companies and other donors to contribute to the Fund.

Our funds will be used to assist with immediate and anticipated direct service needs including but not limited to:

  • Access to food and basic hygiene
  • Caring for vulnerable populations
  • Childcare
  • Nonprofit operation

We recognize that these needs may evolve or grow in the coming weeks and months, and we are committed to being flexible and responsive.

Funding decisions will be announced within 10 days of application. Our goal is to be as nimble and flexible as possible in ensuring that critical services are received by those most at risk in our community.

  • To be selected for funding, applicants must be legally incorporated with IRS 501(c)3 status or be a governmental or religious organization with a clear, charitable purpose.
  • This fund does not grant to individuals.
  • Funds cannot be used for partisan efforts.

The Foundation understands the COVID-19 pandemic is having and will continue to have a significant impact on individuals and families in Lapeer County. We will work to move resources as quickly as possible to community-based organizations that are directly supporting local families and residents who are most affected. But unfortunately, we cannot offer direct funds to individuals.

To ensure that we can coordinate and share resources as quickly as possible, donors may not restrict their gifts to an individual grantee. If you have a specific organization you would like to support, we encourage you to give directly to that organization.

No. This Fund is not intended to be the only vehicle to give funds to nonprofits working at the frontlines of the COVID-19 outbreak. You are encouraged to give directly to organizations you may have supported in the past or nonprofits you know are addressing needs in your community. This Fund is another vehicle through which those needs will be addressed.

The Lapeer County Emergency Relief Fund will prioritize funding for organizations within Lapeer County. Donors seeking to support organizations outside of Lapeer County are encouraged to make direct gifts or reach out to that area’s community foundation for assistance in getting resources targeted to that region.
